The Butterfly Effect is a movie that came out in 2004, about how small acts can have unforeseen
consequences over time
Every day we have the privilege to make an impact on those we encounter during the course of
our ordinary day. You can choose to be an everyday hero. We ignite hope when we perform even the most mundane acts.
Last Saturday night I had the rare opportunity to make it to downtown Portland in the evening,
which actually means going to Voodoo Donuts. As I waited outside for my friend with my box of
donuts, I met Chris, a homeless man from New York. I could have ignored him, I am sure he is used to that, but this picture came to mind.
I prayed with Chris and offered him my change. I called him by name, and told him I cared about
I don’t think I will ever see Chris again, but I know that one small act helped ignite hope for him.
